The music could be over at elementary schools across the Northshore School District.
Facing a $26 million budget shortfall for the next school year the district has had to take a closer look at what programs it can afford to keep while protecting teachers and class sizes.
Among the toughest choices being made right now is whether to cut the fifth-grade music program. It has been around for more than 40 years and puts instruments in the hands of hundreds of kids who might not otherwise have the chance to learn music. The elimination of the fifth-grade program would save the district about $780,000.
