Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell helped break ground on a new project in Pioneer Square Wednesday, which is set to reconnect the city's oldest neighborhood with the new Seattle waterfront. "With the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, our community was reconnected to the water,” said Lisa Howard, the executive director of the Alliance for Pioneer Square. “This year we'll be able to see this project come to life, ensuring a direct connection of Pioneer Square as a waterfront community." The project will improve four streets connecting Pioneer Square to the waterfront as part of Seattle's Downtown Activation Plan.
