Description
A Tacoma police officer charged in the death of Manuel Ellis appeared on the witness stand again on Tuesday to testify in his own defense.
Matthew Collins is one of three officers charged in Ellis' death. Ellis, a 33-year-old Black man, died in Tacoma police custody in March of 2020.
Collins and his partner, Officer Christopher Burbank, both face second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges. Officer Timothy Rankine is charged with first-degree manslaughter.
