"What struck me about the provisional verdict was that (...) the court targeted the defence strategy and the behaviour during the hearings," says Patrick Maisonneuve, the European Parliament's lawyer, as Marine Le Pen, who was found guilty of embezzling public funds, was sentenced to a five-year ban on running for office with immediate effect.
