The day after Marine Le Pen's embezzlement conviction for a fake jobs scheme at the EU parliament which included a five-year ban on running for office, militants from the National Rally (Rassemblement National, RN) mobilise in far right stronghold Hénin-Beaumont to, in their view, "save democracy." Steeve Briois, the mayor of the city, warns that "the response will be both 'judicial' and 'political.'"
