Thousands of Israelis, many of them religious rightwingers, protested Netanyahu's government, calling for the enforcement of mandatory military service to all, including ultra-Orthodox Jewish men, amid a shortage of manpower due to ongoing fighting on various fronts. The demonstrators held a protest march followed by a rally near the Knesset, (Israel's parliament) in Jerusalem. For decades, ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) Jews have avoided military service, arguing that the army's structure does not align with their religious practices and that serving would disrupt their way of life.
