Description
A zoo in Fuengirola, in Spain's southern Andalusia region, has welcomed a new baby Malayan Tapir, a endangered species that has just 2,500 specimens left in the wild, according to the Bioparc Fuengirola's head of Zoology. "We're incredibly happy to have reproduced them," says Javier Vicent, "because with this baby we're maintaining a genetic wealth that's essential for, who knows, perhaps in the future". Native to Southeast Asia, the Malayan Tapir is the only living tapir species from outside the Americas and has been on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Red List since 2008.
