Description
A stretch of the Eastex Freeway in northeast Houston now bears the name of a fallen Harris County deputy.
State Rep. Armando Walle and State Sen. Carol Alvarado hosted a ceremony Monday to unveil the new TxDOT sign designating the section of U.S. Highway 59 between Little York and Beltway 8 as Deputy Sheriff Darren Almendarez Memorial Highway.
Deputy Almendarez served with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for 23 years and was assigned to the Auto Theft Task Force. He was killed in the line of duty on March 31, 2022.
