Description
Jan. 22 on The Story: During his 2024 campaign to be Portland mayor, Keith Wilson made an ambitious pledge: to end unsheltered homelessness in the city within his first year in office. After a resounding win over his opponents, Wilson is now at the helm of the city and setting out what he thinks it will take to accomplish his campaign promise. That means 1,500 nighttime shelter beds, according to his office, and a budget of over $28 million. But Wilson has also floated an end to 72-hour notices before clearing camps, and somehow halting the practice of clearing camps just for them to return or move nearby.
