Oct. 21 on The Story: A new determination from the Portland Auditor's office today found that city commissioner and mayoral candidate Rene Gonzalez did violate campaign finance laws by using $6,400 in city funds to facilitate sprucing up his Wikipedia page. In September, the auditor's office initially found "insufficient evidence" of a violation, though they noted it was an "exceedingly close call." But the investigation was reopened two weeks later with new evidence, and the auditor's office said it found proof that Gonzalez used the city funds in order to forward his mayoral campaign.
