Description
Sept. 24 on The Story: Naturally, the news is near and dear to our hearts here at The Story — meaning, the journalism field. But there's been little good news of news to bring you for quite some time. Print publications throughout Oregon continue to shrink or fold entirely. Most efforts to revive local journalism only slow the bleed, and they tend not to last very long. But one area with some potential appears to be in nonprofit news organizations, and more are starting to pop up. Recently, the people behind Willamette Week revealed that they're starting a nonprofit called the Oregon Journalism Project, dedicated to seeking out important stories beyond the Portland city limits with the help of donors. And they're not the only ones trying to fill the gap left by legacy print media.
