Description
It's a tough job, but our nation's truckers say hitting the open road to get people their goods and supplies can be a rewarding career.
The Oregon Trucking Association (OTA) is showing its love for drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week by handing out free lunches to truckers who roll through certain weigh stations in the state.
Employees with OTA gave away nearly 100 Subway meals Monday at the weigh station in Cascade Locks. Tuesday, they plan to do the same at the weigh station south of Madras, followed by visits to Klamath Falls and Ashland on Wednesday. The group will head north to Woodburn’s weigh station on Thursday.
Oregon Trucking Association members say this appreciation week is a favorite event every year and recognizes the "unsung heroes” who travel night and day to transport everyone’s goods.
“They’re away from their family a lot, it’s not always a localized job,” said Adam Williamson, Director of Training and Development at the Oregon Trucking Association, “They have to get out across the state and across the country; and so, they make a lot of sacrifices to make our lives possible.”
Williamson said trucking can be an amazing career choice for the younger generation and those looking for a new line of work. He said it is a great way to see the country and serve the community.
