Description
Rudy Chapa grew up in Indiana and was the son of Mexican immigrants. He was one of the University of Oregon's best distance runners. Chapa was a member of the cross-country team that won the national title in 1977. Individually, he also won the 5,000 at the NCAA Championships in 1978, and a year later, broke Steve Prefontaine's American record in the 3,000.
