Description
Aug. 12 on The Story: In May, KGW brought you an investigation into a pair of attorneys who sent dozens of demand letters to Portland businesses, citing complaints under the Americans with Disabilities Act, or the ADA, on behalf of disabled clients. The letters directed owners to quickly fix some technical violations of the ADA and pay thousands of dollars in attorney fees or face legal action. Some businesses complied and took the hit. Others refused and were taken to court. Now one of the clients is suing his own attorney, saying he was used as a "tool" in a scheme that seems to originate with a law firm based in Tennessee — and court records indicate that it goes much further than just two states.
