Description
June 6 on The Story: Last month, members of the Newberg School Board said they were shocked to learn that the district is nearly $4 million over budget — a problem they need to sort out by the end of June. According to the board, they'd received reports from the superintendent up until recently that the district should end the year with a budget surplus. But a former member of the board says she's saddened, but not surprised to find out about the shortfall. She says it's the end result of decisions made back in 2021, when a conservative majority took control of the board and began a series of controversies that the district is still paying for, both literally and figuratively, despite voters expelling them in 2023.
