Description
May 7 on The Story: In March, the Oregon Employment Department rolled out a new computer platform called Frances Online. It was supposed to alleviate many of the issues posed by the old system — a relic of the '90s that seriously hampered efforts to distribute benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic, just when they were needed most. But according to a number of Oregonians who've reached out to KGW, the new system hasn't fixed any problems for them — not only are they not receiving benefits, but they can't seem to contact anyone at OED in order to fix the issues. It's enough of a problem that Gov. Tina Kotek acknowledged it in a press conference last week, expressing her dissatisfaction with the state of affairs. Here's what we know about what's going on and what the state is doing to solve it.
