July 18, 2023 on The Story: In November, West Linn mother Regina Fleming found out she was being sued by a debt collection agency. The source of the debt still isn't clear, she says, and she's determined to fight it in court. But because it's a relatively small amount, $2,100, she's found that she can't find an attorney to help her. So now she's using every resource at her disposal, including the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, to mount her own legal defense. Her case underlines some of the challenges that Oregonians face in defending themselves from debt collectors, whether the charges are legitimate or not.
