Description
June 27, 2023 on The Story: Pacific Power has been in the news recently after losing a class action lawsuit brought by victims of the September 2020 wildfires. The company was accused of contributing to fires that destroyed homes by failing to de-energize power lines in high-threat areas. But in the years since those fires, the company has developed a sophisticated meteorology system meant to keep close tabs on the kinds of weather conditions that can cause fires, giving them a clearer picture of when power shutoffs are needed. It came up last year, and it will almost certainly come into play this fire season as well.
