Description
Feb. 14, 2023 on The Story: In September, Mayor Ted Wheeler gave the greenlight to a pilot program for ShotSpotter, a company that uses audio tech to detect gunshots, then alerts police. Despite a hefty price tag, Wheeler seemed to think the service would help with Portland's gun violence problem. But the city recently backtracked on that decision, opening up the process to ShotSpotter competitors like EAGL Technology Inc. They're eager to have a bite at the apple, although they've never landed a contract this big before. Now city officials are reviewing proposals from four different companies before announcing any further decisions.
