Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley helped secure federal funds to put up to 40 low-income families into permanent affordable homes. "Proud Ground" helps build those affordable homes. According to a recent report from the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, the state needs to build more than 550,000 homes over the next 20 years. Nearly a third of those will be needed for low-income Oregonians. Sen. Wyden said that ensuring there are enough new homes to meet the needs of the population is one of his top priorities.
