The Aurora Police Department is changing how and when it uses its SWAT team. The change in policy comes in the wake of the deadly shooting of Kilyn Lewis, who was shot and killed by an Aurora Police officer last May while officers were executing a warrant. The officer claimed Lewis was reaching for a gun, but investigators would later find all Lewis had on him was his phone. The changes happening within APD came out in a report from IntegrAssure, the independent consent decree monitor for Aurora and APD.
