Description
Police in Fort Collins have arrested a high school student in connection with a home invasion and assault that happened last year.
On May 4, 2024, Fort Collins Police Services said dispatchers received multiple calls at around 3:45 a.m. about a possible disturbance in the 1200 block of East Stuart Street. They learned that someone had entered an apartment and assaulted the woman living there. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police described the man and asked the public for information.
The following November, police provided more information. They said the victim was a healthcare worker and that she was asleep in her second-floor unit at the Brookview Apartments when a masked man entered through her balcony and assaulted her.
Police said during the assault, the man questioned her about how she had sinned and demanded she confess. He left after neighbors tried to intervene, according to police.
Police put out another call for tips from the public. On Thursday, police announced that they had made an arrest. They said they received a tip in January from a community member who reported an encounter with a man living at the Brookview Apartments. The tipster believed he could be connected to the assault based on their interaction.
That tip led to the arrest of Ethan Campbell, 18, at Fort Collins High School on Thursday. A spokesperson for Poudre School District confirmed that he is a student there.
Campbell was issued a $750,000 cash bond and booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:
Attempted first-degree murder
First-degree assault
First-degree burglary
Felony sentence enhancer- crime of violence
Police said although Campbell was a juvenile at the time of the assault, he is being charged as an adult due to the severity of the crime. They said he and the victim did not have a personal relationship, but they did live in the same apartment complex.
The investigation is ongoing. Police asked anyone with additional information to contact their tip line at 970-416-2825 or email [email protected].
