Officials say nine people and one pilot were on board the Cessna heading to Nome from Unalakleet. The cities are separated by Norton Sound, part of the Bering Sea. That's where the search for the plane is now taking place. The flight was a regularly scheduled commuter trip. Flight tracking data shows the plane experienced a sudden loss in elevation and speed about 12 miles offshore.
