The Denver Animal Shelter (DAS) said on Friday that a new scam is targeting owners of lost pets. DAS said a number of residents have come into the Denver shelter looking for their lost pets because they received a phone call from someone saying their pet was at the shelter and needed surgery. The scammer says on the phone that their pet needs emergency surgery after being hit by a car and a $500 deposit must be paid via credit card over the phone.
