Description
A wildfire has prompted the evacuation of hundreds of homes north of Lyons Tuesday afternoon.
The fire, called the Stone Canyon Fire, has burned about 1,320 acres with no containment. Two structures have been lost in the fire, Boulder emergency managers said.
Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson said the fire started at around 1:30 p.m. and is moving toward the northeast.
Evacuations:
Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for:
Areas north of Broadway and east of 5th Avenue in the town of Lyons
Stone Canyon area
Eagle Ridge area
Steamboat Valley area
Blue Mountain area
Spring Valley area
North side of Carter Lake to Highway 34 in Larimer County
The American Red Cross said 380 homes in Boulder County are under evacuation orders. It's unclear how many homes in Larimer County are being evacuated.
A pre-evacuation warning is in effect for the area of Highway 36 north of Lyons to Apple Valley Road, according to Boulder ODM.
An evacuation center is open at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, located at 9595 Nelson Road. Volunteers from the Red Cross are present to help those impacted by the fire.
A spokesperson for the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said the evacuation point is not a shelter, but rather a place where those evacuating can get information about the fire.
Animals of all sizes can also be taken to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden.
