Description
Video from South Metro Fire Rescue shows crews fighting to 3 acre brush fire that was caused by fireworks.
The department said that while the fire was very close to a neighborhood, no structures were damaged.
The fire started just before 12:15 a.m. Sunday in the Willow Spring Open Space along South Homestead Parkway. That is just south of East Arapahoe Road and South Holly Street.
Fireworks had been reported in the area before the fire started, South Metro Fire said in a post on X. Firefighters said they found remnants of a "mortar style firework" and a trash can full of illegal fireworks.
The fire was contained after about 20 minutes and crews finished mopping up hot spots just before 2 a.m.
South Metro Fire Rescue said no one has been identified as a suspect for shooting off the fireworks that caused the fire at this point.
