A police pursuit in Thornton ended Tuesday morning in Lakewood with two people shot and killed by police. The pursuit started near East 84th Avenue and Washington Street, according to Thornton Police. Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle without license plates and followed it into Lakewood, police said. The vehicle stopped in the area of West Alameda Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard where one person got out of the car and fired a gun at officers, police said. Officers continued the pursuit to the area of West 2nd Avenue and Garrison Street where the vehicle stopped, according to police. Two people, at least one was armed with a handgun, got out of the car, police said. Officers fired shots at the two people, hitting and killing both of them, according to Thornton Police. The identities of the two people killed will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
