A man is dead after two deputies opened fire Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, in Jefferson County, Colorado. The shooting happened on Kipling Street near Interstate 70, on the west side of the Denver metro area, after a deputy found a disabled vehicle in the northbound lanes of Kipling Street at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The deputy called for backup and when backup arrived, two deputies fired their weapons at a man, according to the sheriff's office. It is unclear at this time what led up to the shooting. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.
