Description
A judge on Tuesday afternoon increased bail to $5 million cash only for the man accused of fatally shooting his roommate and a second person inside a dorm at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Nicholas Jordan, 25, was arrested Monday morning in connection with the shooting on Friday that killed Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24.
Jordan appeared in court by video conference from the jail wearing an orange jumpsuit. During the hearing, prosecutors asked the judge to increase his bail from $1 million to $5 million. They argued that Jordan, who is from Michigan, has no ties to Colorado and suggested he attempted to flee before his arrest Monday. They also said he had a handgun when he was taken into custody.
Jordan's attorney asked to reserve the bond until Friday when he is next due in court because he said he said had not yet seen the arrest affidavit. The judge increased his bond anyway but said the issue would be revisited Friday.
Montgomery and Knopp were found dead in a room in the Crestone House dorm around 6 a.m. Friday after several calls reported shots fired. The shooting prompted a lockdown and shelter-in-place order, and the campus was closed Friday. The lockdown was later lifted.
