Description
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis dished out some love on Valentine's Day Friday with proposed pay increases for state law enforcement and firefighters during a press conference held in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The governor made a recommendation for pay increases for 4,700 state sworn law enforcement officers, as well as more than 700 state firefighters, in an effort that will boost low recruitment and retainment numbers from Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Florida Highway Patrol. He said the incentive will also provide officers with more immigration enforcement training.
"This is not terribly a large amount of money in the context of the overall budget, I mean it's a small fraction," DeSantis said. "But, I think it'll be very, very meaningful, and it will ensure that the good work that has been done, we'll be able to continue."
