Description
While they're known for scoring goals on the field, Tampa Bay Sun FC players scored big for the community Sunday morning by helping build beds for local children in need.
Players and staff partnered with Hope to Dream and Sleep in Heavenly Peace at the team's practice facility on East Palm Avenue, working together to construct wooden bunk beds complete with mattresses and bedding.
"You know we are kind of able to put all our hands in together and you know, kind of like the team mentality, we are all pitching in," said Christina Unkel, President of Tampa Bay Sun FC.
The labor of love brought together professional athletes and community volunteers, all focused on one goal — ensuring every child has a proper place to sleep.
"I think it's devastating to hear that, but as people who have a platform, to speak out and do good in the community, I think it's our responsibility to step up and do events like this," Tampa Bay Sun player Erika Tymrak said.
