Description
Police are investigating after a security guard was shot on New Year's Eve outside of the Tampa Museum of Art.
Tampa police responded around 10:45 p.m. to reports of shots fired near the museum on N. Ashley Drive.
Investigators said security was in the process of removing a crowd of people from the property when one of the guards, a man in his late 30s, was shot.
The man was taken to the hospital where he is said to be stable.
In a statement, the Tampa Museum of Art said its staff was "disheartened by the incident" but clarified that the shooting happened during a private event held at the museum. It also said the security guard involved is not an employee of the museum.
