An elderly man in Largo is charged with attempted murder after he tried to kill his wife and then himself on Christmas Day, police said. It happened Christmas morning at a home on Pine Cone Way near Whispering Drive. Police said 78-year-old Jonathan McPhee called 911 saying he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself. Officers went to the home where they found McPhee with a self-inflicted stab wound and his wife, who was suffering from blunt-force trauma. The couple was rushed to the hospital where they are both reportedly still in critical condition. McPhee has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.
