Description
Tampa Bay-area counties are opening shelters as temperatures are expected to be the coldest they've been since January this week.
Here is a county-by-county look at what shelters will be open.
Hillsborough County
Starting Monday night and into Tuesday, unhoused individuals or those who have inadequate heating resources in their homes can utilize the county's cold weather shelters, according to a press release.
Organizers are expecting high demand with limited capacity. Anyone who is able to find a warm place to stay, like at a family member's or friend's, is urged to do so.
The county says all cold weather shelters will start taking in guests between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, "unless they reach capacity prior to that time."
All congregate shelters are for adults only. For anyone with children, Metropolitan Ministries is supplying a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the county. Pre-registration is required by calling (813) 209-1176.
