Description
Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis officially resigned from his position to run for the congressional seat that is up for grabs in the Panhandle.
In a letter to the governor, Patronis said it has been "an honor and a privilege to serve as Florida's CFO for nearly eight years."
Monday marks the last day for elected officials who are interested in running in the special election for Rep. Matt Gaetz's seat to submit their resignation letters if they want to hold on to their seats while campaigning.
The primary election for the vacant seat is currently scheduled for Jan. 28 with the general election scheduled for April 1.
"I irrevocably resign as CFO effective March 31, 2025," Patronis wrote in his letter.
Patronis has already garnered support for his anticipated campaign, including from President-elect Donald Trump.
"Jimmy Patronis has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JIMMY, RUN!" Trump's statement on Truth Social reads, in part.
