Description
Tropical Storm Francine is becoming better organized and a little stronger in the Gulf of Mexico as it churns closer to the Louisiana coast.
What was once Potential Tropical Cyclone Six, the newly named tropical system has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and is located about 435 miles south-southwest of Cameron, Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest advisory.
Several watches and warnings are in effect, including storm surge and hurricane-related headlines. Forecasters said the storm is anticipated to reach hurricane status and could undergo even more "significant intensification" before reaching the Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
For the Florida Gulf Coast, including the Tampa Bay area, this storm will not threaten the region.
"Hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area by Wednesday afternoon, with tropical storm conditions possible by Wednesday morning," the advisory read.
