Description
A global technology outage grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off air on Friday in a massive disruption that affected companies and services around the world and highlighted dependence on software from a handful of providers.
It also affected flights in the Tampa Bay area.
Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.
The issue affected Microsoft 365 apps and services, and escalating disruptions continued hours after the software company said it was gradually fixing it.
The website DownDectector, which tracks user-reported internet outages, recorded growing outages in services at Visa, ADT security and Amazon, and airlines including American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
Tampa International Airport (TPA) said in an update around 10:30 a.m. that flight operations have fully resumed. For status updates, passengers are encouraged to check with their airline.
