Description
Tropical Storm Beryl has officially formed in the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the second named storm of the season.
In its latest advisory, the National Hurricane Center said the tropical storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Windward Islands late Sunday into Monday morning.
"Steady strengthening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become a hurricane in a couple of days," NHC forecasters said.
Tropical Storm Beryl is about 1,785 miles east-southeast of Barbados, the hurricane center said. Forecasters say it's moving west at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
While there are no watches or warnings currently in place, the NHC says those in the Lesser Antilles should expect them Friday night or early Saturday.
