A 3-year-old was one of two people killed in a shooting Monday night in Lakeland, according to the police department. A homicide investigation is underway. It happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the area of 1850 Cambridge Cove Circle. Police say they arrived within two minutes of being dispatched to find two people had been hit by gunfire. Both the Lakeland Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue began providing life-saving measures. The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person with gunshot wounds was dropped off by a personal vehicle at Lakeland Regional Health, where they were pronounced dead, according to police. A third person was transported to Lakeland Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries. "Over 25 officers and detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. It appears at this time that all parties are familiar with each other," the police department wrote in a news release.
