One person was killed and four others were transported to the hospital as trauma alerts after a serious crash Friday morning in Lake Wales. The crash involved a pickup truck and an SUV on Highway 640 off of Highway 27. Polk County Fire Rescue said first responders arrived just before 11:30 a.m. and confirmed one person was killed. According to the agency, other passengers in the cars were "heavily entrapped" and needed to be extricated. Four people were taken to transported via helicopter as trauma alerts. Both lanes of Highway 640 remain closed due to the crash. Drivers should avoid the area. The deadly crash remains under investigation.
