Children’s success in school can impact their success in life, but new data obtained by 10 Investigates shows more than 15,000 students -- mostly Black and Hispanic -- are missing valuable classroom time due to suspensions from Hillsborough County Public Schools.
“We have got to do something different,” said Rep. Dianne Hart, a Democrat representing District 63.
Alarmed by the data, Hart stated plans to 10 Investigates to file legislation to discourage districts from suspending students for minor infractions, particularly those in grades K-3.
