Description
A tornado watch is in effect through 9 p.m. Tuesday for much of the Tampa Bay region due to the threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
The watch includes most counties, including the cities of Sarasota, St. Petersburg and Tampa, including locations northward. A few tornadoes, some intense, are possible, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph are likely, it added.
Forecasters expect a potent line of strong to severe thunderstorms to press inland from the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon.
Be weather-aware for possible statements: A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development, while a tornado warning means a tornado has been observed or indicated by weather radar.
