Anyone who happens to be near the former Double Tree Hotel in Tampa late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning might hear the sounds of a thunderstorm, but it has nothing to do with the weather. The Florida Department of Transportation says it is planning to have crews use controlled explosives at around 1:30 a.m. through 2 a.m. on Wednesday to demolish the 10-story tower located at 4500 W. Cypress St. So as with severe weather, people near the area should be in a safe place.
