A drunk driver with open containers in his car crashed into a state trooper overnight Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened just after midnight at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Florida Avenue, the agency said in a news release. Authorities say the 51-year-old trooper from Lakeland turned into the intersection while he was heading to the scene of another crash. At the same time, 20-year-old Jesus Zamora ran a red light and crashed into the passenger side of the trooper's patrol car, FHP said.
