Description
The city of Dunedin's dedication ceremony for the Zachary L. Shannon Highway is underway at the Dunedin Youth Guild Park. The ceremony kicked off at 10 a.m.
Representatives from FDOT, Pinellas County, the Florida legislature, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars teamed up to name a section of the Alternate U.S. Highway 19/Bayshore Blvd after Dunedin native Zachary L. Shannon who joined the U.S. Army in 2010 and died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan in 2013 at the age of 21.
A bill to honor Shannon's memory by naming the "SPC Zachary L Shannon Memorial Highway" was introduced during this year's Florida Legislative Session, 10 years after Shannon's death.
