As shelters prepare to open their doors, TPA is preparing to close theirs due to the potential impacts of Tropical Storm Idalia. During a news conference Monday afternoon, Executive Vice President of Operations and Customer Service John Tiliacos explained the decision came after "extensive conversations" with the National Weather Service. Starting at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, all commercial operations will be suspended until further notice. The airport says that while some cargo and private aircraft operations will continue overnight, all air traffic will stop by 7 a.m. Tuesday.
