Description
Two manatees rescued by the Lee County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit were released on Wednesday, July 12 at Florida's Demere Key, the agency said in a Facebook post.
It took months of rehabilitation to get them to this point.
"The first manatee, Padilla, was rescued off the shore of Pine Island. Deputies with the LCSO Marine Unit located her floating, sick with Red Tide. Padilla weighs 590 lbs," the sheriff's office shared.
"The second manatee, Corozone, was located by boaters near St. James City. Corozone was also ill from red tide. He weighs 910 lbs."
Both of the manatees were rescued in early May and were rehabilitated by SeaWorld Orlando.
