Description
On warm days, the Svitanok organisation leaves its door open, welcoming the marginalised residents of eastern Ukraine's Kramatorsk. Be it those living with HIV, recovering from drug addiction, or sex workers -- all in need are offered medical guidance and respite, even as Russian troops advance towards the city. "I come here all the time," says Oleg Makaria, who is HIV positive and displaced from his home in Donetsk, adding that he feels "relaxed" at the centre. The war has exacerbated stigma towards HIV-positive people, says Svitlana Andreieva, an employee at Svitanok. "This is where they gain faith," she says, "they remember that they are human beings."
