Description
"I find it monstrous on the part of the French state, I find it monstrous on the part of the German authorities at the time who agreed to play this game, and then the families who got rid of their children, because there is no other term for it, it was getting rid of a cumbersome object, a cumbersome package," says Claudine Spire. She is one of the post-war children born to German mothers and French soldier fathers in the French-occupied zone of Germany. Between 1946 and 1951, around 1,500 of them were taken from their mothers, brought to France and placed with adoptive families. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
