Ozempic, an anti-diabetic drug that has found an international market for people trying to lose weight, is gaining popularity in Kosovo despite not being sanctioned for weight loss by authorities. In the Balkan nation, where more than half the population is overweight, this trend is driving up demand and weighing on prices despite warnings of possible side effects. "We have had information on the abuse of this drug by the population since it was validated on a list of authorised drugs and placed on the market," says Dr Merita Emini-Sadiku, head of an endocrinology clinic in the country's capital, Pristina.
